The stimulus is about ideology and proving Reagan wrong.

Bob Krumm gets it right when he says that the stimulus package is about proving Reagan wrong. He continues, "It’s about proving that an enlightened government is superior to a country led by tens of millions of individual sovereign decision makers."

Democrats believe that a small number of career politicians and bureaucrats can make better decisions for Americans than can millions of individuals in their own lives. This seems particularly strange when Democrats so fanatically argue for individual choice for even minors in abortion decisions and insist on giving the vote to even felons and illegal aliens.

Democrats emphasize the need for even the least educated to make political decisions, but deny everyone the right to make economic decisions in their own lives. In reality, a free polity requires a free economy. Government control of the economy leads inevitably to government control of political discussion and choice.

Only by controlling political life can the politicians and bureaucrats maintain control over economic decisions. We already see movement by Democrats to reimpose the "Fairness Doctrine" to eliminate conservative voices in talk radio.
