MIT Study warns of unintended consequences resulting from cellulosic biofuels production.

The MIT study warns of potential unintended consequences of an aggressive cellulosic biofuels program. Development of large land resources necessary to produce plant fibers to produce the biofuels would require conversion of forest reserves or land now producing food crops. Either approach would have significant environmental consequences.

While cellulosic biofuels provide a promising source of energy in the future, its use cannot be viewed as without potentially serious environmental consequences. This suggests that no serious alternative energy source comes without its own set of potential environmental consequences.
