The AP reports, "In a high-profile reversal of the Bush administration, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday the government is scrapping the leases of 77 parcels of federal land for oil and gas drilling in Utah's redrock country."
Are these people completely stupid or so caught up in their ideology that they can't see reality anymore? The AP quotes Salazar as saying, "In the last weeks in office, the Bush administration rushed ahead to sell oil and gas leases near some of our nation's most precious landscapes in Utah." Could $4 gasoline have impacted the Bush administration's thinking?
Mr. Salazar, are there any leases in this country not near some "precious landscapes"? I suspect not. "The sales were worth $6 million to the government in addition to royalties on any oil or gas production." In addition, the action eliminated the many jobs exploration of the leases would have provided. It also prevented the production of oil and gas reserves from the properties that would have helped in increasing energy independence.
Unfortunately, this only indicates the direction we can expect from the Obama administration as it follows a hard line agenda of energy dependence on foreign oil supplies that will increase world energy prices. This will provide money to terrorist organizations and damage the world economy.
